TheatreWorld Backdrops’ Discount Backdrop Collection provides options for customers with very tight budgets to help control costs or expand their scenic stage selections. Many circumstances lead to our quality control teams to bring a specific unit to TheatreWorld’s “Island of Misfit Backdrops.” Some of these include fabric stretch (usually caused by mishandling or fog machines that are too close to the backdrop), damage to the unit from rigging, misplacement of set pieces, or stage teams, fading over time due to theatrical lighting, etc. Our repair and touch-up teams are very good, but some damage just can’t be brought up to TheatreWorld’s very high quality standards.

Every unit in this section has an explanation of the damage and a recent picture of the backdrop taken at a professional theater with basic amber stage lighting. Using various gels and lighting techniques, the backdrops can have different tones.

While the misfit is with you and after your detailed inspection, you may purchase the unit in your possession in an as-is condition. Your weekly rental charge will be deducted from the backdrop’s purchase price. Customers may purchase their specific misfit backdrop for the published price listed on its detail page.
