Directors Roundtable Backdrops

Even one little backdrop can do a lot--and TheatreWorld's Matilda collection has plenty of choices! If you only use a few backdrops for this show, let it be the trio of ALPHABET BLOCKS HEADER, ALPHABET BLOCKS LEGS, and CHALKBOARD. The colorful letter blocks are a playful way to frame your stage--and bare, oversized CHALKBOARD leaves plenty of room for projections and other tricks. Use MANSION LIBRARY for Matlida's home-away-from-home, where she nurtures her mind in books and finds sympathy in kindly librarian Mrs. Phelps. Choose FAMILY ROOM INTERIOR for the Wormwood home. Pompous HARVARD CLASSROOM is just right for classrooms or for evil Miss Trunchbull's office--just add some trophies and The Chokey and you'll have one scary headmistress' office! Or, for something even more frightening for the Trunchbull's lair, opt for industrial VINTAGE WAREHOUSE - B. Tiny, dilapidated WOOD COTTAGE makes a humble home for Miss Honey. Matilda Backdrops

Based on the classic book by Roald Dahl, Matilda is the story of a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other's lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
