Directors Roundtable Backdrops
While the entire show takes place in a vintage theater, the musical numbers and flashback scenes in FOLLIES allow Theatre Directors and Set Designers to take advantage of a variety of scenic elements. Of course theatrical curtains and scrims are necessary scenery, however many opt to incorporate backdrops that depict classic Americana into the storyline in order to solidify the idea that many of the scenes actually take place in the 20’s and 30’s. In most instances, this script is best for more experienced actors and vocalists and requires era-specific costumes if you intend to stick to the key elements of the original Broadway run. If your troupe has the capabilities, this show is a wonderful stage production that addresses a time when America was evolving culturally and socially.
