Set sail for the tropics with TheatreWorld's South Pacific collection! Most production of South Pacific feature a beachy background behind larger set pieces. Bright, blue CARIBBEAN BEACH and CASTAWAY BAY both feature sandy beaches and palm trees stretching out towards the water. TROPICAL BEACH has a similar look, but features thatched huts and a small island in the distance. CABO SAN LUCAS is equally crystalline and includes dramatic rock formations that stretch all the way up the backdrop. If you plan to use set pieces to bring the beach to your stage, choose FIRE SKY, a dramatic sunset sky that lighting designers love. For evening scenes, consider romantic PACIFIC PARADISE, with its tall palm trees and dramatic sunset. Or, for an even tighter view of the ocean, choose MOONLIT OCEAN, with its lapping waves and ethereal full moon. With a TheatreWorld backdrop on your stage, your audiences are in for one "enchanted evening"!

In an island paradise during the Second World War, two Americans - a wide-eyed nurse and a promising young lieutenant - discover love and come face-to-face with their own prejudices. Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, refuses Emile's proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself the fulfillment of a future with an innocent Tonkinese girl with whom he's fallen in love out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe's life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness, thus confronting and conquering her prejudices.
