Suggested Backdrops

Les Mis is famous for its elaborate set, including a giant barricade on a turntable--but it is certainly possible to use backdrops and more modest set pieces instead! Begin with FIRE SKY, perfect as a background for Jean Valjean's time on the chain gang and to place behind your barricade later in the show. STONE WALL is another versatile drop that can back your factory scenes as easily as your hospital--and even sewer--scenes. VINTAGE CITY DOCKS, with some nighttime lighting, is just right for the dock scenes, where a desperate Fantine struggles to survive. Use OLD WORLD TAVERN INTERIOR for raucous "Master of the House" and use OLD WORLD TOWN SQUARE - B for the squalid streets of Paris. VICTORIAN PALACE BALLROOM is an elegant choice for Cosette and Marius' wedding. Finally, STARRY NIGHT is another versatile drop, equally at home behind Javert's intense "Stars" as it is for the show's emotional "Epilogue." "At the End of the Day," you'll be very happy you chose to work with TheatreWorld Backdrops for your production of Les Mis!

Les Miserables Backdrops

In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe that Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean's adopted daughter. His world view shattered, Javert commits suicide, and Valjean finally attains the peace that he has sought for so long. Les Misérables is the world’s longest running musical — a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo's novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time.
